This is a sad day…

Rest in Peace Secretary Jesse Robredo.

While the entire nation remembers the 29th death anniversary of Ninoy Aquino, an icon of democracy whose selfless efforts paved way for the end of Marcos regime, Filipinos are shocked to have heard one of the worst news — Sec. Robredo is confirmed dead.

Following a tragic plane crash on on Saturday, August 18, Sec. Robredo and his two pilots have been the prime aim of  an intense search off the Masbate City coast.  [Please read the entire news courtesy of Rappler here.]

Thanks to Matt Reed and his team at EvolutionDive, [and the rest of volunteer divers and those of the government’s agencies] the lifeless body of the secretary and the two pilots have been retrieved  after 3 days of search and rescue operations.

As rightfully expected, Filipinos in the Twitterverse mourn the tragic death of the good interior secretary whose way of public service and  life is likened to the late Pres. Ramon Magsaysay.

Tweets of sympathies pour in at the Twitterverse…

Many regret his loss being one of the country’s most trusted government leader as reflected in their Facebook status.

The Philippines has lost an upright public servant. This is really tragic!

For Bicolanos like myself, Sec. Robredo is one great fountain source of pride! Having transformed Naga  into Bicol’s premier city during his tenure, thus receiving various recognition [including the prestigious Ramon Magsaysay Award for Government Service] for his dedication as a public servant, I believe he would have done greater accomplishments for Bicolandia… for the Philippines! I felt so sorry for his plight.

Bicol has lost a great son!

I have to agree with @rikiflo when she tweets, “The good go early. RIP Sec. Roberedo.”
